AGRA: At least 16 people were killed and around 31 injured after a private bus hit a stationary truck on late Wednesday night on Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
The bus was ferrying 54 passengers to Motihari in Bihar and it hit the truck from behind. The accident occurred at around 9.50pm near 71.600 milestone of Nagla Khangar police jurisdiction in Firozabad district. The injured and deceased victims’ bodies have been shifted to Saifai medical college.
According to sources, driver of the truck halted the vehicle on the extreme right lane of the expressway to change the tyre after it got punctured on the expressway. The bus coming from behind and hit the rear-side of the truck.
“It took over three hours to evacuate and extract the injured and deceased victim’s bodies from the mangled bus. Victims were hanging outside the window in an unconscious state. The entire scene was horrendous,” said a team member of UPEIDA patrolling party.
After the accident, additional director general of police Agra zone Ajay Anand, inspector general of police Satish Ganesh, SP Firozabad Sachindra Patel, DM Firozabad Chandra Vijay Singh and the entire district machinery, including the heavy police force and rescue worker reached the spot to move the victims to the hospital.
“The impact of the accident was so severe that the bus was crushed to half of its length. The bus was carrying passengers from the national capital to Motihari, Bihar,” said inspector general of police Agra range Satish Ganesh.
ADG Agra zone, Ajay Anand said, “Till now we have total 14 casualties and many injured. All the victims have been shifted to PGI Saifai.”
